Expansion presented new challenges for Corso’s Cookies, a Syracuse, NY based producer of gourmet baked goods. The company was using Yahoo! Store to process orders, fresh baked goods sent primarily directly to the customer. But as the company expanded, developing a nationwide network of over 100 resellers, the company’s operating needs changed significantly.
Both the order taking and shipping processes soon became unmanageable. “We were getting email orders from 22 different resellers in 22 different formats, each of which had to be re-keyed manually,” said CIO Trevor Whiting. “The company’s bimonthly order reconciliation process was getting out-of-hand.”
A lack of shipping integration led to delays when the company had to tie tracking numbers to individual client orders. Custom requirements including personalized gift cards, printed reseller logos and promotional codes to spur reorders as well as custom packing slip and carrier shipping labels resulted in “errors up and down the line,” said Whiting. “Inefficient, slow workflow threatened to limit the growth of new reseller accounts.”
